She stopped practising as a catholic in the late '60's and investigated several other mainstream religions. Having eventually given up searching for a religion she could embrace wholeheartedly, she met a group of Baha'is while baby sitting for a Baha'i family. They were performing in a concert locally and she was very struck by their obvious happiness and friendliness. She asked who they were and were told they were Baha'is. On their return from the concert her friends Ann and Philip Hinton told her the basics about the Baha'i Faith which astonishingly were what she had been searching for previously. Particularly the fact that all the major world religions come from the same God but the practical teachings are different to suit the age and location in which they are being taught. These also have to be continually updated as mankind progresses hence the need for more divine teachers or messengers. So we have to see all religions as part of the one whole and not in conflict with each other. In this age can now understand the Baha'i concept of an elected world government run by people of a spiritual nature (in Christ's time a world government was not relevant) so this is a new teaching for this time. The spiritual laws as contained in the ten commandments e.g. Thou shalt not kill or commit adultery, are eternal laws and do not change. After attending a several meetings and discussion evenings Patsy became a Baha'i in January 1972.
Almost immediately she was elected to serve on the Spiritual Assembly of Epsom and served continuously until she left Epsom in April 1980 to move to Huddersfield and from that time has served on the Spiritual Assembly of Kirklees.
Since moving to Huddersfield Patsy has worked at the Citizens Advice Bureau and then in 1985 set up a new G.P. practice with a local doctor in a purpose built Health Centre. She worked as the practice manager and practice nursing sister for four years during which time the practice grew, more G.P. partners were taken on and it was also a training practice for new G.P's. After four years she trained another member of staff to take over the practice manager duties while she concentrated on the nursing side. Since then she has been holding her own surgeries as well as running the usual diabetic and asthma and health screening clinics and carrying out the other varied duties of the practice nurse.
She was chairman of the Spiritual Assembly of Kirklees for several years and has served on several national Baha'i committees.
She has now moved to Bristol.
